BENEFITS
St John’s Wort is a traditional herbal plant with a long history of use in herbal preparations. It is valued for its bright yellow flowers and is commonly grown for herbal teas, infused oils and tinctures. The flowering tops have traditionally been used in a variety of herbal preparations and are particularly popular among home herbalists.
WAY TO PREPARE
The flowering tops can be used fresh or dried for herbal preparations. Traditionally prepared as a tea, tincture or infused oil. For an infused oil, freshly harvested flowering tops can be placed in a suitable carrier oil and allowed to infuse.
GROWING CONDITIONS
Season: Autumn to Spring - Perennial
Soil: Well Draining
Watering: Water Regularly while establishing
Position: Full Sun to Part Shade
Fertilising: Compost, Manure, Liquid feed
Use: Flowering tops used fresh or dried. Traditionally used for teas, tinctures and infused oils.
Growing tips: An easy-care perennial once established. Prefers a sunny position and well-drained soil. Can spread readily in suitable conditions, so allow adequate space or grow in a pot to help contain it. Cut back after flowering to encourage fresh growth.
Companion Plants: Lavender, Chamomile, Yarrow, Calendula.
